Day 1: Understanding Your Two Minds

Hey there!
Welcome to Day 1 of our journey into the fascinating world of your subconscious mind. This week, we're diving into the groundbreaking work of Dr. Joseph Murphy, whose research has helped millions unlock their inner potential. Today, let's start with the foundation.
You Have Two Minds, Not One
Here's something that might surprise you: you're operating with two distinct minds right now. Dr. Murphy explains it beautifully—think of your mind as a garden. Your conscious mind is the gardener who chooses what seeds to plant, while your subconscious mind is the soil that accepts any seed without judgment and grows it into reality.
Your conscious mind is your thinking, reasoning mind. It's what you're using right now to read these words, make decisions, and analyze information. It's voluntary—you control it.
Your subconscious mind, however, is entirely different. It doesn't reason or argue. It doesn't question whether something is good or bad for you. It simply accepts what your conscious mind impresses upon it and works 24/7 to make it your reality. It controls your heartbeat, breathing, digestion, and every automatic function in your body. It also stores your beliefs, habits, and memories.

Here's Where It Gets Interesting
Dr. Murphy shares a powerful example from his practice: A woman came to him suffering from severe arthritis. Through their conversations, he discovered she harbored deep resentment toward her ex-husband. She would mentally rehearse her anger every single day, thinking thoughts like "He makes me sick" and "I can't stomach what he did."
Her subconscious mind, being the faithful servant it is, took these thoughts literally. It didn't judge whether this was wise—it simply said, "Your wish is my command" and created the physical manifestation of those thoughts: sickness in her body.
When she learned to consciously redirect her thoughts toward forgiveness and peace, feeding her subconscious new instructions through daily affirmations, her arthritis gradually improved. Her subconscious mind was just as faithful in creating health as it had been in creating disease.
The Key Principle
Here's what Dr. Murphy discovered: Your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between a real experience and one you vividly imagine with feeling. This is why worrying about potential disasters can actually attract them—your subconscious thinks you want those outcomes because you keep picturing them!
Think about this: Have you ever worried so much about failing a presentation that you actually stumbled through it? Or been so convinced you'd catch a cold (because "everyone's getting sick") that you actually got sick? That's your subconscious at work, faithfully creating what you've been programming it to create.

Your First Practice (Start Today!)
Before bed tonight, try this simple technique from Dr. Murphy:
1) Sit quietly for a few moments
2) Take three deep breaths to relax
3) Say to yourself with feeling: "My subconscious mind is my partner in success. Tonight, as I sleep, it is working on solutions to my challenges and bringing me closer to my goals."
4) Repeat this three times, slowly and with genuine feeling
Why before bed? Because as you drift off to sleep, your conscious mind becomes quieter, and your subconscious is most receptive to suggestion. Dr. Murphy called this the "twilight zone"—the golden period for programming your subconscious.

The Bottom Line
You are not a victim of your circumstances. You have within you right now an incredible power—your subconscious mind—that is always working. The question is: What are you programming it to create?
Tomorrow, we'll explore the Law of Belief and how what you believe, your subconscious will move heaven and earth to prove true.
Until then, watch your thoughts. They're instructions to your most faithful servant.
